Can real-life miniature horses Gilbert and Boots become friends after starting off on the wrong hoof?
Gilbert can’t wait for his new pasture pal to arrive, but sassy Boots is NOT what the lonely mini horse expected. Punky, spunky Boots and mild, mellow Gilbert just don’t mesh.

Amazon Review, Tyra: I shared this lovely book with my family and a mental health group I moderate and it was not only engaging but enjoyed by all. It discusses important topics we are currently dealing with in our society (ie bullying, finding commonality among our differences and the importance of friendship). The story is adorable, easy to read and to understand for all ages. The illustrations are just precious. I especially enjoyed seeing the real people and animals at the end of the book that this story is based upon. Another special part of the book is the discussion topics provided for talking about the ideas brought forth in the story. I believe this to be especially helpful to parents and/or teachers. I highly recommend this book for your personal or professional library.
A Healing Haven
A New Home for Dominick
A New Family for Dominick
Shawn Jayroe’s passion for horses and desire to help the underdog was instilled during her charmed childhood. Later, when the shy yet determined self-made businesswoman witnessed mistreatment of the beautiful majestic equines, a deep need to protect those without a voice begged her to action.
Shawn rallied troops from the community to bring her vision to life, and with dedicated volunteers and financial donations, a miraculous life-saving refuge was gradually pieced together, forming RVR Horse Rescue.
But one result Shawn hadn’t anticipated was the magical effect the horrifically abused animals would imprint on their caregivers, blurring the lines of who was saving whom.
Author Shirley Alarie delivers the riveting saga of Shawn Jayroe and her army of Horse Angels who are tackling the unspoken issue of equine neglect and abuse one desperate animal at a time.
A Healing Haven is an inspiring true story and a beautiful reminder that it is in giving that we receive life’s greatest blessings.

It is told with honesty, clarity and thought provoking ideas. I bought several for gift giving as well as myself and think it would make a very meaningful gift for anyone.

Amazon review, Ann: Beautiful story with themes of friendship, loyalty, trust, and rehabilitation. All children can relate easily to this story. It’s ... especially great for introducing ... the cruelty by many humans to animals. The children can be encouraged by the hope shown in the ... heart-warming and artistically appealing book. I look forward to using this book in my job as a teacher/tutor in public schools.
"A New Family for Dominick" is Part 2 of the 'Dominick the Donkey' Book Series.
Dominick and Charity had both been saved by the wonderful people of RVR Horse Rescue. The donkey and old horse quickly became inseparable best buddies – that is, until Charity was adopted and moved away with her new family.
Poor Dominick was sad and lonely without his friend. None of the other animals and nice people could take the place of Charity.
Will Dominick be able to make new friends and be happy again? Could he ever get a new family of his own?
Both adults and children are sure to fall in love with a very special donkey. This story is based on real characters and events at RVR Horse Rescue.
Teacher review, Brandy: I read "A New Family for Dominick" to my pre-school class and they loved it! We voted Ms. Alarie our favorite author!"
