Next up in our ‘Remember Me’ Series are The Little Kitty and Bounty. These OTTBs arrived at RVR in 2018 as part of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Program.
While many OTTBs settle down and become lower-key once they’ve recovered and acclimated to life off the track, The Little Kitty just wasn’t that mare. Her name was a misnomer for the beautiful but challenging bay girl. The Lioness Queen might have been a more suitable feline description.
She was a handful and definitely not for the faint-of-heart adopter. Only the most experienced volunteers were approved to handle her. Some wondered whether she’d ever be able to find a loving home because she wasn’t easy to love. She wasn’t the mellow, easy-going, kid-friendly horse most adopters wanted.
Could anyone love her enough to give her the happily-ever-after that she deserved?
Well, the day a man described the horse he was looking for as “spirited”, we knew exactly who his perfect match would be! The icing on the cake was when the family also adopted sweet blue-roan Bounty as her companion to round out their herd.
These two horses hit the jackpot with their forever family. The Little Kitty was appropriately re-named to the regal “Katherine”, which suits her perfectly. Katherine and Bounty have since developed a beautiful bond with their owners, Daniel and Joy.
When we see the unbelievably magical results of their love, care, and dedication, especially to a mare who was written off by many, it literally makes all the pain and hard work of rescue worth it.
Daniel described that: “Katherine saves my life every day.” How much more perfect could a match be?
Katherine’s story reminds us that there is a loving home for every horse, even those who aren’t ‘easy’. She and Bounty are now enjoying the wonderful life they deserve and we absolutely love it when all the pieces fall together just right.
